What is therapeutic massage?
Therapeutic massage is a specialized form of manual therapy aimed primarily at improving the health and well-being of the patient by applying various manipulation techniques to the soft tissues of the body, such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia. Unlike relaxation massage, therapeutic massage focuses on specific health issues, such as muscle pain, sports injuries, spinal conditions, or inflammatory states. The massage therapist, using a combination of pressure, stretching, and kneading, stimulates blood circulation, reduces muscle tension, and supports the body's regenerative processes. Therapeutic massage can be used as a standalone form of therapy or as a complement to other treatment methods, such as physiotherapy or pharmacological treatment. Therapeutic massage sessions are typically tailored to the individual needs of the patient and can include various techniques, such as deep massage, deep tissue massage, trigger point techniques, or segmental massage, making them a versatile and effective method for restoring health and enhancing quality of life.
How to Prepare for a Therapeutic Massage?
Preparation for a therapeutic massage begins with ensuring proper personal hygiene, which includes thoroughly cleaning your body and using unscented cosmetics to avoid distracting the therapist. It is also important to avoid consuming heavy meals, alcohol, and caffeine for a few hours before the session, as these can cause discomfort during the massage. Additionally, make sure to stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water, which aids muscle function and facilitates recovery. If this is your first visit, bring any test results or other medical documents that may be relevant for the therapist. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that is easy to remove and put back on. Before the massage begins, inform your therapist of any ailments, injuries, or allergies that may affect the treatment.
